Here is some information about the musicians in the Royal Court Brass:

Tim Akers

Tim first performed with the Royal Court Brass in 2025. He is a graduate of Redwood High School and earned an accounting degree from Golden Gate University. He has worked in the accounting field for many years. Tim is a member of the College of San Mateo Symphonic Band and a freelance trumpet player with several other groups in the Bay Area. Mike Askew Mike has played guitar with the Royal Court Brass "big band" since 2025. He played guitar with the Air Force Band in Washington DC, and currently works as a music educator and jazz guitarist. He is based in San Mateo. He also offers DJ services for parties and wedding receptions. Bob Boynton Bob is one of the most versatile musicians in the RCB. He has appeared with the group since the 1970s as a conductor, trumpeter, flute and piccolo player, and electric bass player. A graduate of Lowell High School (San Francisco) and San Francisco State University, Bob served as the music director at Capuchino High School (San Bruno), worked in the computer industry, and owned several businesses. Bob also plays saxophone (soprano, alto, and tenor), guitar, and drums. Jon Frank Jon has performed percussion duties with the RCB since the late 90s. He appeared on the group's compact disc ("A Royal Christmas"). Jon is a graduate of San Francissco State University and spent many years as the orchestra director at Hoover Middle School (San Francisco). He is an active freelance jazz performer. Kevin Gallagher Kevin joined the RCB on trombone in 2024. A graduate of Aragon High School (San Mateo) and California State University, Fresno, Kevin is currently the band director at Aragon High School and the director of the Symphonic Band at College of San Mateo. Kevin was also a member of the College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble for many years. Barry Gilbrech Barry is an in-demand trumpet player. He performs with the College of San Mateo Symphonic Band and Jazz Ensemble, is a member of The Love Handles, and plays with numerous bands throughout the Bay Area. A graduate of Aragon High School, Barry played his first concert with the RCB in 2012. He works as a trumpet teacher at St. Matthew Catholic School (San Mateo). Greg Gomez Greg joined the RCB in 1971 on trombone and euphonium. A graduate of Lowell High School, California State University, East Bay, and California Institute of the Arts, Greg spent many years as a music educator in the Bay Area. He currently works as an assistant professor at San Francisco State University. He is also a busy freelance musician. Barry Guerrero Barry has played tuba with the RCB since the 1990s. A graduate of California State University, Chico, and a student at De Anza College and Cabrillo College, Barry worked in the retail music business for many years as the manager of the classical music department at Tower Records and several other leading music retailers. Barry played tuba in the Redwood Symphony for over ten years. He appears with numerous music groups around the Bay Area. Gregg Hosfeldt Gregg has played trumpet with the RCB since the early 90s. A graduate of the Santa Clara University Graduate School of Business, he started his career as a computer programmer at Hewlett Packard and ended up as the Assistant Director of Public Works for the City of Mountain View. Gregg has also served for over 35 years as a volunteer firefighter and captain for the Coastside Fire Protection District. He regularly appears with numerous music groups in the Bay Area. Jay Jordan Jay joined the RCB on trumpet in the '90s. A graduate of Hillsdale High School (San Mateo) and San Jose State University, he has an MA in Music Education from San Francisco State University. Jay was the music director at Serra High School (San Mateo), retiring in 2018 after 41 years there. In addition to trumpet, he plays guitar and electric bass. He is a published composer and arranger, and works as a freelance musician. Bill Langdell Bill is a founding member of the RCB. In addition to his duties on French horn, Bill plays trumpet, trombone, euphonium, and alphorn. A graduate of Lowell High School and U.C. Berkeley, Bill worked as an engineer in Silicon Valley for many years. He regularly appears with several community music groups in the Bay Area. Rich Lee Rich has been a member of the RCB since 2024. A graduate of South San Francisco High School, California State University, Hayward, and Johns Hopkins University, Rich is a very busy musician. He currently works as the Assistant City Manager for the City of South San Francisco. He was the bass trombone player in the College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble for many years, and is a founding member of the Electric Squeezebox Orchestra (a 17-piece jazz band). Brad Martens Brad plays trombone and euphonium in the RCB. He appeared on "A Royal Christmas" (recorded in 1998), and has performed regularly with the group since 2012. A graduate of Aragon High School, College of San Mateo, and San Francisco State University, he currently works as the Director of Media Systems and Workflow at the San Francisco Giants. He was a member of the College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble for many years, and played trombone and bass trombone with the Stanford Jazz Orchestra and many professional music groups in the Bay Area. Bryce Martens Bryce is a founding member of the RCB. He plays trumpet and piano, arranges music for the group, and serves as the director of the RCB. A graduate of Lowell High School, San Francisco State University, and SFSU Graduate School of Business, Bryce worked in the computer industry for more than 25 years in software development management, customer training and technical writing management, and marketing management. He is a computer science professor at College of San Mateo and is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP). Floyd Reinhart Floyd has been a member of the RCB since 1971 on bass trombone and tuba. A graduate of Lowell High School, San Francisco State University, and Berklee College of Music (Boston), Floyd currently works as the IT Director at AccountMate Software Corporation. He is one of the busiest musicians in the group and performs with many professional and community ensembles around the Bay Area. Bob Reyen Bob joined the RCB on trumpet in 2025. A graduate of Aragon High School, San Francisco State University, and University of Michigan, Bob worked for many years in the field of finance. He is a freelance trumpeter and performs with many groups in the Bay Area. Ravi Sahae Ravi joined the RCB in 2025 on trombone and euphonium. A graduate of Aragon High School, UCLA, and Hastings College of the Law, Ravi is a litigator and general counsel who specializes in real estate litigation, construction contract and defect disputes, and business matters of all sorts. He performs with several music groups, including the Symphony Parnassus and the Tribal Blues and Funk Band. Doug Simon Doug has played principal trumpet with the RCB since the 1980s. He is a retired music educator from the Burlingame School District, an in-demand lead trumpet player, and active freelance musician. He regularly appears with music groups throughout the Bay Area, and performs as a solo artist for weddings and church services. Nathan Sweatt Nathan has been playing trombone with the RCB since 2016. A graduate of Aragon High School and California State University, Hayward, Nathan has worked at Educare and as a freelance musician (trombone, bass, and drums). He was a member of the College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble for many years, and performs with a number of bands around the Bay Area. Cathleen Torres Cathleen first performed on French horn with the RCB in 2024. A graduate of South San Francisco High School, California State University, Hayward, and Johns Hopkins University, she is a multi-talented brass player, performing on French horn, trombone, trumpet, euphonium, and tuba. She was a member of the College of San Mateo Jazz Ensemble on trombone for many years, and currently is a private music teacher and very active freelance musician. She regularly appears with several music groups in the Bay Area. Erinn Washburn Erinn first performed with the Royal Court Brass in 2025 on French horn. Erinn is a music educator at Roy Cloud School in Redwood City, and is also the music director and conductor of the West Bay Communmiity Band. Erinn is a freelance performer on French horn.
